ID Quantique (IDQ), SK Group, and IonQ have announced a definitive agreement for IonQ to acquire a controlling stake in IDQ, a global leader in quantum safe networking and quantum detection systems based in Geneva, Switzerland with international offices.
This strategic acquisition will integrate IDQ’s team, products, and quantum networking business into IonQ’s global quantum ecosystem. The investment aims to strengthen IDQ’s position in quantum safe cryptography and quantum detection systems while accelerating the development of quantum-safe networks and quantum networking markets, particularly in the United States.
Quantum computing represents a transformative innovation with potential beyond current AI advancements, promising significant breakthroughs in complex problem-solving across defense, finance, and energy sectors. Both companies believe quantum networks will be essential infrastructure for the future quantum internet, with secure communication being a critical requirement.
IonQ’s architecture plans to use photonic interconnects to link multiple quantum computers into more powerful clusters. The combination of IonQ and IDQ technologies will enable the foundation for these robust quantum clusters. The acquisition is expected to close during Q2 2025, subject to customary closing conditions.
