Scientists have coupled quantum waves of magnetic spins to photons

Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have created a superconducting circuit that couples quantum waves of magnetic spins called magnons to photons of equivalent energy.

“The electromagnetic wave represented by a photon is equivalent to the spin wave represented by a magnon,” said Argonne postdoctoral researcher Yi Li.

The combination of a superconducting and a magnetic system allows for precise coupling/decoupling of the magnon and photon which provides interesting opportunities for manipulating quantum information (SciTechDaily)
