Scientists have discovered and experimentally confirmed the existence of “quadruplons,” genuine four-body quasi-particles consisting of two electrons and two holes tightly bound together in a monolayer semiconductor, which represent a fundamentally new type of matter excitation beyond previously known quasi-particles like excitons and bi-excitons.
